The main idea is that intersegmental vessels are those that separate hepatic segments. The hepatic veins run in the fissures between segments and drain each segment into the inferior vena cava, effectively delineating the segment boundaries. In contrast, portal veins, hepatic arteries, and bile ducts stay within the portal tracts of a given segment and do not form intersegmental boundaries. Therefore, the hepatic veins are the intersegmental vessels.
